Don't think this tells us much because it is significantly influenced by the number of new teachers and long-time teachers. A better measure is the starting salary and maximum per the contract.
None-the-less here is how they stack up:
Average Northampton County teachers' salaries for 2005-06
- Saucon Valley School District: $60,429
- Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School: $57,422
- Northampton Area School District: $55,730
- Career Institute of Technology: $55,698
- Bethlehem Area School District: $55,020
- Nazareth Area School District: $54,135
- Wilson Area School District: $53,574
- Pen Argyl Area School District: $51,537
- Easton Area School District: $50,226
- Bangor Area School District: $48,763

I have a Master's (plus 15 credits) and I only make 42,000 at the 2nd to lowest district mentioned. Keep in mind I am considered a "new" teacher, even though I have 11 rs with another district-my years never transferred. I'm not complaining-I LOVE my job and I continually work to further my education.
K,
You have just illustrated what is wrong with the teachers union system (or any union for that matter).
In the corporate world, you would have been brought in at a much higher salary. My guess is you are making less than teachers that have less experience and education than you have.
This system penalizes you for moving to what may be a better position because you lose everything you worked for.
Thanks anonymous-I know you are right, but at the same time I accept it. I gain perks in other ways-kids smiles, helping families in need, a short ride to work, decent healthcare (though I do contribute to it) and wonderful co-workers-my principal is one in a million! I am proud to do what I do-I learn something new every day!
K,
Ever thought about Nazareth ASD? We could use some teachers with your outlook.
Merry Christmas!

As a teacher-hopeful myself, I'd say you signed up for the right reasons! It's always inspiring when I see people that share your outlook!
