The Spring 2008 Chess Tournament pre-registration ends on Thursday, March 27, though you can register up to the morning of the event.
Unrated players aged 5-14 compete in aged based groups and every player is guaranteed five games. Pairings are done to best match ability. Players do not use a clock, nor do they record their moves. They must self-regulate the game and the tournament director and an assistant are available if players have a question and are called on when one player claims the game is ended.
My daughter has participated in both fall and spring for the past few years and they do an excellent job running the tournament.
There is also a USCF rated division for players aged 16 and under.
Awards are given in both divisions and they have had door prizes drawn between rounds each time we've attended.
The event is Saturday, March 29 at Northampton Community College, College Center, 2nd Floor - registration is 7:30 to 8:45, all entrants must arrive by 9 a.m. and rounds begin at 9:30 am.
For more information you can contact the tournament director Scott Zrinski (610-559-0769 or sazmar00@rcn.com)
