Fundraising Sale - Saturday
Dryland UCC in Lower Nazareth will have a charity sale on Saturday from 8 until 2 pm according to the Express-Times (read it here).
The sale will help bring a refugee family to Bethlehem.
While I think it's great that a church, or any organization, raises money for a specific cause, I have trouble with the fact that this particular fundraiser will benefit a family from another country. Do the members of Dryland UCC not see the homeless man who rides his bike along Newburg Rd almost everyday? Maybe he's quite happy being on his own, maybe he needs help, maybe he wants help, who knows.
There are plenty of local people in need of this kind of charity. I think we need to look a little closer to home in helping those in need before we reach out to other countries.
