DNA Match Solves Case

Both the Morning Call (read it here) and The Express-Times (read it here) report that Colonial Regional Police used DNA to find the man responsible for a smash and grab robbery at a Freeman Jewelers in 1996.

A man rushed into the store wielding a sledge hammer, smashed open cases, and left with over fifty items valued at over $37,000.  He left the sledge hammer on which police found blood.  The DNA did not indicate a match at the time, however, more recently a match did show up and police went to North Carolina to issue a warrant.
