Early Dismissal Changes

A note came home with my daughter from NASD yesterday indicating that K-3 early dismissal has been changed from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

I checked the school calendar and visited the sites of each of the levels and found that Intermediate School changed to 12:00.  Saw that MS was indicated as 11:40, but am thinking this will change if IS is at noon, doesn’t seem to be enough time in-between for bus runs.

The long and short of it is – why bother?  Students at k-3 will now have less than two and one half hours in school on early dismissal days for the rest of the year.  MS/HS, presumably with the longest half day, will be in school for maybe four hours.

For this amount of time, it would be more cost effective and environmentally friendly to close the schools on those days.

Good Points Ross, problem is that your points are logical and because the school district is ran by the government, logic and common sense does n0t apply.

I believe that partial days (no matter how short) are credited as whole days for the state mandated required school days for the year. That is why.

I could be wrong... I'll happily be corrected.

Just to note the High School Dismissal time is now 11:15. This means since the MS/HS is one bus run the MS will be getting out a few minutes earlir than HS.

Also I don't know if there is any required length but the school days with this half day schedule will be counted as whole days
