Parents of High School and Middle School students will have a new online service available to them this year. This service is called the "Nazareth Parent Web Portal" and will allow parents who register for the site to: "access their child's attendance information, student schedules (6-12), mid-term progress reports, and special district and building announcements via the internet."
A letter regarding the program from the district that will be distributed to students is available here.
You can register or access the portal once registered here.
Before finding out that this service is being rolled out first to middle school and high school students, I began the registration process. What I found was a basic form with detained information being requested, presumably to confirm you are the parent requesting the account information. After providing a log-in and password, though, you are instructed to print the form out, sign it, and mail it in to the district. Again, it is assumed that the purpose is to have a signed document on file tied to the account name. Not bad, simply not what most people expect when registering for a service on line.
From a strong advocate of connecting people to share information, I think this is a great step for the district to keep the parents informed of their students' progress. Adding behavior and teacher comments might not be a bad idea for the future.
It will interesting to see what the adoption rate of this service is. Might be the most "misplaced" note brought home this year. Of course if you have nothing to hide, you'd be smart to encourage your parents to visit to see those good grades and that perfect attendance record.
What do you think? Would you check to see if your child is in school, was tardy, or is passing all of his or her classes?
