All proceeds will go to the Lauren's Hope Foundation to benefit families with brain injured children. Funds raised will be used to purchase adapted toys, equipment and special needs services for the children and sponsored events for the family.

Lauren's Hope Foundation was founded in loving memory of Lauren Flood, grand daughter of Terry (NHS '68) and Judy Rissmiller. Lauren passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 19th, 2007 from complications from a severe brain injury sustained at birth. She was four years old.

It is our sincere hope that we can help children like Lauren and support their families.

5th Annual Barony of Rose Sale

The Rotary Club is holding its rose sale this weekend, in advance of Repayment Day on June 24. The original tract of land was granted to Letitia Penn from her brothers under a feudal system that required her to demonstrate her allegiance to them by providing one red rose per year on June 24th.

According to the article in the Express-Times (read it here):

Rotary Club President Patrick Russamano said roses will be sold for $3.50 apiece and be available at Center Square, Nazareth YMCA, the KNBT branch on Broad Street, Moravian Hall Square, the Nazareth 7-Eleven, Nazareth Diner and the Wal-Mart on Route 248 in Northampton Crossings.

Proceeds benefit community projects within the Nazareth area. Sale times are 3 to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Derby Registration Now Open

Registration Now Open - This year's entry fees are $20/car (pre-register online) or $30/car (day-of event).

In other words... if you're not pre-registered & show up on May 2nd with a car, its $30.

I am pushing pre-registration so we can get an idea of how many cars will be participating, plus you save $10.

Pre-registration is open until May 1st.

Word has gotten around, and i am getting tons of e-mails about new people building cars. Should have a bunch of rookies. LOOK OUT!!!

Easter Bunny Fundraiser

Thanks to the reader who forwarded information about an upcoming fundraiser at Applebee's on 191/Bethlehem Pike.

I am hosting a Pancake Breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 4th at the Applebee's on Rt. 191 (in front of Home Depot). All proceeds from this fun, family friendly event will be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Applebee's is hosting this event for us.

Adults will be $5 and children 12 and under are $3. The Easter Bunny will be there for pictures, so bring your camera! Hours are 8am-11am with the last seating at 10:30am. Tickets will be available at the door. There will also be raffle baskets to benefit the charity.

Diacont Memorial Golf Tournament

Morning Call Sports Editor Keith Groller reports that the Courtney Diacont Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on Monday at the Northampton Country Club to benefit a scholarship foundation established in her memory.

Groller notes:

'It is already an overwhelming success,'' said Chuck Stehly, one of the tournament organizers.

''We will have almost 200 golfers for a morning and afternoon event. We have eight major sponsors that contributed $2,000 to help cover some of the event expenses and approximately 25 gold sponsors that have contributed $500 to the scholarship fund alone.''

Golf Fundraiser

Nazareth Football hosts 7^th Annual Golf Outing

The Nazareth Football Booster Club will host its 7^th Annual Golf Outing on Saturday April 26, 2008 at 8:00 am at the Riverview Country Club. Registration will begin at 7:00 and will be a scramble format. The price per golfer is $90.00 and includes green fees, card, hot dog and beverage at turn, gift and golfer’s buffet after the outing. Extras will include Pot of Gold, Closest to Pin, Longest Drive and a Putting Contest. Any questions, please contact Bill and Traci King at 610-365-8219.

Food Bank - Penny Drive

The Nazareth Area Food Bank Penny Drive is reported on in the Express-Times today (read it here).

The drive is to raise funds toward a new facility for the food bank which has outgrown its St. John's location.

The current goal for the drive is to raise $10,000 by Easter.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Blue Eagle Marching Band announces it's annual All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner on February 23.

It will be held at the Nazareth Middle School from 4-7 pm and includes all you can eat salad, rolls, and spaghetti. In addition, there will be live music by the students, tricky tray, and a bake sale.

Prices are $6.50 per person,$5.00 for students 6-12, $5.00 for seniors 62 and up, and children 5 and under eat free.

Join us for a fun evening with good food, good music, and a great group of kids! Benefits our own
National Champions Blue Eagle Marching Band.

Tickets are sold at the door. Snow date is March 1.

Million Penny fund drive

In March (read it here) and again in September (read it here) I wrote about the Nazareth Area Food Bank and its desire to find a new location due to its outgrowing the space provided by St. John's Lutheran Church in Nazareth.

The twenty year old food bank services nearly 120 families and individuals per month and the donated space, while much appreciated, is not large enough. A case of success leading to a new challenge.

The Million Penny fund drive is an effort to establish a building fund by collecting change at churches throughout the area.

You can also contribute to the fund by contacting the food bank in care of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad Street in Nazareth, or by calling Elizabeth Huth, director (610-759-0821).

Football Team Fundraiser

Diacont Tribute Slideshow

Thanks to Joe Owens' Steaming Cup of Joe blog for posting the slideshow (view the blog and show here) presented at the Tribute Night for Courtney Diacont a few weeks back. His site also notes over $11,000 was raised for Dream Come True.

Quarters for Families

The Express-Times has a blog post on the Quarters for Families event held in Nazareth this past Sunday (read it here).

The event raised $5700 for Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council and the Blue Star Mothers.

American Cancer Society Basket Benefit

I was asked to post an invitation to "Celebrate a Summer of Hope and To stimulate a better quality of life with the Longaberger Company. The invitation is to a benefit breakfast on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Green Pond Country Club from 8:15 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

The event will include educational insights on Breast Cancer Awareness, a Longaberger fashion show, a Longaberger weaver will create heirloom treasures, and you can win door prizes (including the baskets woven at the event), enjoy special displays and drawings while raising money for the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Research Race for A Cure.

There are a variety of ordering options from a base ticket $25.00 to tickets plus Horizon of Hope Baskets, pink mugs, and rosebud lids.
