Wall Street Journal on Martin Guitar

Tomorrow's (Monday) Wall Street Journal will include an article on the Martin Guitar Company's decision to produce a new guitar in the sub $1000 price bracket in response to the current ecomony (read the article here).

The article notes that the new 1 Series, introduced in April has sold out its 8000 production run for this year. The goal was to keep employees from being laid off by introducing a lower cost, yet quality guitar. The article notes that sales were down 20% and retiring workers were not being replaced in most cases.

Seems to be a good strategy the company has employed, let's hope there are no lay-offs.

A Musician's Visit to Martin Guitar

Musician James Lee Stanley (visit his site) recently visited the Martin Guitar Company and made a post on his blog about the experience that stretched from one to six and a half hours (read it here).

Acoustic Guitar Mag Features Martin History

Acoustic Guitar magazine has a great article on Martin History Revisited (read it here).

The author's of the article take a look at Mike Longworth's book Martin Guitars: A History and explore Martin archives to update each era.

There are photos of some of the instruments as well as one from 1912 showing workers at the plant on North Street.

Music Concert - Friday Night

The Nazareth School District Music Department will be having the Honors Concert Friday night January 9, 2008 at 7PM. This concert includes children that have been chosen from all three elementary schools, the middle school and the high school to perform both in choral presentation and also in instrumental. It is sure to be an entertaining evening. It would be great night for the community to come out and support the youth of Nazareth and enjoy a musically entertaining evening.

On November 20, 2008 at 7PM, a representative from the USSBA will be coming to award the Nazareth Blue Eagle Marching Band with their Grand National Trophy and Banner. All are welcome to attend and come out and support the band and recognize and share in this major accomplishment. It will be held in the LGI room at the Nazareth Senior High School.

Nazareth Band Earns Grand National Champions Honor

WAHOO! The Nazareth Blue Eagle Marching Band traveled to Annapolis Maryland and performed at the USSBA National Championships on Saturday November 7, 2008.

The band placed first in group 4 open being awarded the group 4 National Champions, later in the evening the band found out that they also won the 2008 USSBA Grand National Title, this is a huge accomplishment since this was out of groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 which consisted of approximately 80 bands. The band also had the highest score on record in USSBA history with a score of 98.575. This is the second time that the band won the title of USSBA Grand National Champions. USSBA will be presenting the band and the staff with their trophy and banner at a date to be announced. Congratulations to the band members, Mr. Boandl and staff.

Good luck to the Nazareth Blue Eagle Marching Band, which is competing in Annapolis, MD at the USSBA National Championships today.

Blue Eagle Band Update

Want to thank the reader who forwarded the following update on the HS Band:

I just wanted to let you know that the Nazareth Blue Eagle Marching Band is headed to Northern States Championships this Sunday November 2. The event takes place this year at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown. The competition starts at 10am with the award ceremony at 4:30pm. On November 8th the band travels to Annapolis Maryland to compete in National Championships. This past week-end the band placed first in the New Jersey State Championships. Several parents wish the band well and would like to let them know, we think they are the greatest! WAHOO!!!

Community Chorus Concert

Thanks to the reader who mailed to me information on the 7th Annual Harvest Harmonies Concert by the Nazareth Area Community Chorus.

This event takes place on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Schoeneck Moravian Church at 3:00 p.m.

The 70 member chorus is directed by Lenna Harris with Evelyn Michaels accompanying.

There is no charge for the event which is open to the public.

Soundfest Thanks!

If you could please post a thank you to the community of Nazareth for their great support of the Nazareth Blue Eagle Soundfest this past Saturday, especially Nazareth Fire Police, Nazareth and Upper Nazareth Police Departments it would be greatly appreciated. We had a great evening!! The Band and the Band Parents appreciate the support, especially for our youth involved. WAHOO!

Soundfest

This is the 26th year for the Soundfest.

It will be held at Andrew S. Leh Stadium, October 11, 2008 at 6 PM.

The price to get in is adults $7.00, Senior Citizens $3.00 and students $3.00 any children 5 and under are free.

There will be the famous band parent food stand, and excellent entertainment from Moravian College Greyhounds, Nazareth's own Blue Eagle Marching Band and 12 other great bands.

Please come out and enjoy an evening of music and our young adults talents.

Fall Organ Recital

Martin on Main Update

From all accounts the Martin on Main Festival was a huge success despite the early Saturday thunderstorm.

The Morning Call had this report and the Express-Times had this one and a follow-up.

Congrats to all parties for putting together such a wonderful new community event.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

Was asked to post this announcement:

The Blue Eagle Marching Band announces it's annual All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner on February 23.

It will be held at the Nazareth Middle School from 4-7 pm and includes all you can eat salad, rolls, and spaghetti. In addition, there will be live music by the students, tricky tray, and a bake sale.

Prices are $6.50 per person,$5.00 for students 6-12, $5.00 for seniors 62 and up, and children 5 and under eat free.

Join us for a fun evening with good food, good music, and a great group of kids! Benefits our own
National Champions Blue Eagle Marching Band.

Tickets are sold at the door. Snow date is March 1.
